Retro Radio Hour: Holiday Special – Performer Spotlight – Nicole Byblow

Nicole first worked with Bygone on our last Retro Radio Hour, back in May 2013.  She joined us again as the Sound Designer for “Dial M For Murder”, and is now once again lending her singing talents to our radio show! You can also see Nicole in her covers band, Dirty Rumours, which is playing a show at Rancho Relaxo on November 22nd, 9:00pm; dance pop covers, tons of fun!

What made you want to be a part of Bygone Theatre’s “Retro Radio Hour: Holiday Special”?
It was tons of fun in May, and I couldn’t wait to join the same awesome group of people!

What is your favourite holiday movie/tv special?
My favourite is the Grinch, and National Lampoon Christmas Vacation. I love the scary face the Grinch makes when he thinks of his “perfectly awful idea.” That and Boris Karloff’s narration.

What is your fondest holiday memory?
Making and eating shortbread cookies with my mom! I’ll miss it this year cause of the whole gluten free thing … 😦

What is your funniest holiday memory?
When I tricked my mom into telling us there was no Santa Claus. I caught her buying a gift for my sister that was marked “From Santa.”

What are you most excited for in regards to “Retro Radio Hour”?
I’ve never performed Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas before, despite it being my favourite Christmas song and despite Judy Garland being my favourite singer. I can’t wait to perform it!

Come out to hear Nicole belt out a Judy classic on Saturday November 30th at the Winchester Kitchen and Bar; only $5!

Retro Radio Hour: Holiday Special – Performer Spotlight – Geoff Kolomayz

Artistic Director Emily Dix first met Geoff when working as the costume designer for Two Wolves Theatre’s production of “Sundance” for the 2012 Toronto Fringe. Impressed by his acting, she invited him to be a part of the first “Retro Radio Hour” and is thrilled to have him back for the Holiday Special. Be sure to check out his blog and his website for updates on all his projects.

What made you want to be a part of Bygone Theatre’s “Retro Radio Hour: Holiday Special”?
Well I don’t remember how I heard about the first Retro Radio Hour reading series, but I had such fun last time I was climbing over people to come out and do it again.

What is your favourite  holiday tv special?
Every year I diligently, because I love them, watch the stop motion animated classics Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and Santa Claus is Coming to Town.  These hold some of my earliest memories of what Christmas is.  Sitting down with hot chocolate and family to watch the TV special and ramp up my imagination of everything Christmas.  It still hits me.  Of course I now include A Christmas Story in that annual watching.

What is your fondest holiday memory?
I could never sleep on Christmas Eve. Really, I was up to 6am.  So sitting at the top of stairs waiting for Santa to arrive.

What is your most embarrassing holiday memory?
Ever try on boxer shorts for family to make sure the gift from England fits? Don’t try it.

Why should everyone come to see “Retro Radio Hour”?
What more could you ask for, a night of old school radio plays to set the mood and bring back the nostalgia of Christmas’ past.  Come out for the fun, the drink, the nostalgia and friends.

Be sure to check out Geoff and all our other talented performers on Saturday November 30th, 8pm at the Winchester Kitchen. Tickets are only $5! Check out our event page for details.

Retro Radio Hour

Bygone Theatre Fundraiser
Saturday May 11, 2013

Bygone Theatre’s
Retro Radio Hour is fast approaching! Join us Saturday May 11 from 8:00 – 11:00pm at the Winchester Kitchen (51 Winchester St.). It’ll be an evening of bygone entertainment; retro radio plays, great oldies music, a silent auction and a raffle. At the end of the evening we will announce our summer show with info on auditions. This is a great chance to network and we encourage other groups to bring flyers for their own shows so we can share them around. Don’t miss it!
