About Us

Mission Statement
Bygone Theatre develops and produces stories written during or about the early to mid 20th century, drawing inspiration
from cinematic techniques and the aesthetics of Golden Age Hollywood. Bygone strives to provide entertaining,
character-driven stories that are personal and relevant to the individual and by doing so connects audiences to our
history. Bygone aims to promote the growth and development of theatre through a positive environment for artists of all
backgrounds, skills and experiences.
Bygone Theatre was founded in Toronto, Ontario, Canada in October of 2012 by Emily Dix and Matt McGrath. They
produced their first show, John Patrick Shanley’s Doubt: A Parable in January of 2013 at the University of Toronto,
University College East Hall. The show was a co-production with on-campus theatre group, the UC Follies. In May of that
year, they mounted their first Retro Radio Hour performance, a one-night-only show consisting of vintage radio plays and
oldies music. Their next mainstage production was Dial M For Murder, written by Frederick Knott and performed at the
Robert Gill Theatre in August of 2013. More radio shows followed, with Retro Radio Hour: Holiday Special (November
2013); Retro Radio Hour – Suspense! (October 2014); Retro Radio Hour – Romance (February 2015); Retro Radio Hour –
Spring Fling (May 2015) and Retro Radio Hour – Sin & Sensation (July 2015). Their fourth mainstage show was Rope,
performed at the historic Gibson House Museum in November 2014, making it their second site-specific performance. In
October of 2014, Artistic Director/Producer Emily Dix began collaborating with Jamieson Child and Andrew Child of Kid
Switchblade Productions on the original musical, Kill Sister, Kill! The show was selected as a part of the NYC International
Fringe Festival and was mounted at Theatre 80 in Manhattan in August of 2015.
