Community Voices

Working to represent our diverse community

As a small company, Bygone Theatre is somewhat limited in what voices we have to speak to our work and its place in history: the majority of our creative work is done by our Artistic Executive Director, Emily Dix, who has been running the company for the past 10 years. As we developed and revamped our Commitment to Diversity and Accessibility Mandate over the past 2 years, we acknowledged this was an area where we needed to expand, and so we are starting Community Voices as a new initiative.

Community Voices is a series of editorial pieces written by diverse members of our community, reflecting on the key aspects and moments relevant to our work in sustainability and theatre. Writers are paid for their work, and we will both post calls for story ideas and accept unsolicited proposals. This new addition to our educational purpose is a first step towards employing diverse members of our community while we currently operate without any regular funding.
